A Journey Through History

Founded by cimarrones, formerly enslaved people who escaped and established their own communities, San Basilio de Palenque has a remarkable history of resistance and freedom. Founded in 1603, the community achieved recognition of its freedom in 1713 and has preserved its cultural heritage through generations.Today, Palenque is recognized as a UNESCO Cultural and Intangible Heritage of Humanity site, making it one of the most significant cultural destinations in Colombia.
