Cartagena Salsa, Champeta & Cumbia Lessons description:

The Caribbean rhythms, make Colombia a unique country to enjoy. Salsa music has led us to be awarded worldwide and today the champeta music has crossed borders and has become a genre that draws the attention of everyone who enjoys its notes. For this reason, we have designed a unique experience that will take us through the history of these genres. We will learn their roots and how they have evolved until they have become referential Colombian rhythms.

We will also take classes with our local dance instructor for an hour who will teach us the basic steps to be able to dance like a real “costeño”.

Salsa: A Spirited Fusion of Sounds

Salsa, with its contagious rhythms and sensual movements, emerged in the mid-20th century as a fusion of Cuban musical styles like son, mambo, and danzón. It quickly spread throughout Latin America, finding a passionate following in Colombia, particularly in Cartagena and Cali.

Champeta: A Fusion of African and Caribbean Rhythms

Champeta emerged in the 1980s in the impoverished neighborhoods of Cartagena, Colombia, as a fusion of African rhythms, Caribbean influences, and electronic sounds. It quickly gained popularity among the city becoming a powerful expression of their resilience.

Cumbia: The Soul of Colombian Folklore

Cumbia, with its roots tracing back to pre-Colombian times, is considered the oldest and most influential folk genre in Colombia. It emerged from the cultural fusion of indigenous, African, and European elements, reflecting the nation’s rich and diverse heritage.
